What is the Gift Card?

The Gift Card is a prepaid Visa debit card and the value is shown on the Gift Card.

How much does it cost to buy and use my Gift Card?

There is a fee of £2.95 for a £25 Gift Card or £3.95 for a £50 Gift Card.

If you have not spent all the money on the Gift Card there is a fee of £3.00 at the end of each the first and second years. If you have less than £3 on your Gift Card when the fee is due we will waive the balance.

Do I need to do anything before using my Gift Card?

Before using your Gift Card, you must sign the back of the Gift Card. You do not need to activate your Gift Card. To use your Gift Card on the telephone or on the internet you will need to register your Gift Card at www.gospendit.co.uk. Please make a note of the Gift Card number (the long number of the front of the Gift Card) and keep this somewhere safe separate from your Gift Card as you will need this to report it lost or stolen.

Where can I use the Gift Card?

You can use your Gift Card anywhere that accepts Visa debit cards in the United Kingdom but you cannot use it to withdraw cash from cash machines or to get cash back from a shop. If you wish to use your Gift Card to shop by telephone or internet there are some extra things you will need to do.

Will I be charged any fees for using my Gift Card?

There are no fees for making purchases with your Gift Card.

Can I give my Gift Card to someone else?

Once you have used your Gift Card or registered it on-line then you must not give it to anyone else to use. If you intend giving the Gift Card as a gift to someone else, that person should sign the Gift Card on the back and can register the Gift Card on-line.

Is there a limit to how many Gift Cards I can have?

Yes. You can only buy 5 Gift Cards at one time and you cannot buy more the £2,000 worth of our Gift Cards in any 12 month period (this limit was changed by us from the 1st March 2012).

How long can I use my Gift Card for?

You can use your Gift Card until you have spent all the money on it or twenty-four months from the day on which the Gift Card was purchased, whichever comes first.

Can I use my Gift Card at more than one shop?

Yes, you can use your Gift Card anywhere that Visa debit cards are accepted in the UK as long as there are sufficient unspent funds on your Gift Card.

Can I use my Gift Card at petrol stations?

Yes, you can use your Gift Card to pay for fuel by taking it to the cashier. However you cannot use your Gift Card at self service petrol pumps.

Can I use my Gift Card at Hotels and for Rental Cars?

We do not recommend using your Gift Card to pre-book services such as hotels and car hire companies, as they may pre-authorise an estimated amount of the final bill. This amount will be temporarily unavailable to you for a period of time.

Can I use my Gift Card at restaurants?

Yes. You need to ensure that you have an available balance equivalent to the total cost of the meal plus 20% as some restaurants pre-authorise the cost of the meal and a service charge. Once you authorise the payment yourself only the sum you have authorised will be deducted from your Gift Card.

How do I use my Gift Card for internet or telephone purchases?

You need to register your Gift Card online at www.gospendit.co.uk. Some retailers will ask you for a ‘valid from’ date to make purchases. Enter the ‘valid to’ date as stated on the front of your Gift Card.
Please remember that some retailers will add costs for postage and packing and may not process payment until your goods are dispatched, so you will need to ensure you keep sufficient funds to cover your purchases.

Can I get a refund if I need to return an item that I purchased with my Gift Card?

Yes, depending on the refund policy of the retailer. A retailer may wish to refund the purchase price to your Gift Card but this can only be done if your Gift Card has not reached its expiration date (i.e. two years from the date on which it was purchased). It may take a few days for the refund to appear as a credit on your Gift Card.

Is there a charge for using Customer Services?

There is a charge of 10 pence per minute or part of a minute for calls to the Customer Services number 0870 820 0284 from BT landlines, mobile and other provider’s charges may be more than this.

Can I cancel a transaction?

No. Once you have authorised a transaction you cannot cancel it. The amount you spend is automatically deducted from your Gift Card balance.

How do I check the balance on my Gift Card?

You can check your balance whenever you like by calling 0870 820 0284 or, if you have registered your Gift Card, at www.gospendit.co.uk or. You cannot check your balance in store or at a cash machine.
It is important to know your Gift Card balance before you shop, as a retailer cannot tell what the balance is before you use it. If you try to spend more than your Gift Card balance, the transaction will be declined.

Can a retailer tell me my Gift Card balance?

No. Retailers are not able to check your Gift Card balance.

Can I purchase an item that costs more than my Gift Card balance?

Yes. To purchase an item that costs more than the balance on your Gift Card, you must agree with the retailer how much you want to spend on your Gift Card and agree to pay the balance by some other means – such as cash, cheque, or another card.

Can I top-up my Gift Card?

No. Your Gift Card is non re-loadable so you cannot add extra funds to it. If you want to keep spending you will need to buy another Gift Card.

What happens when I spend all the funds on my Gift Card?

Your Gift Card can no longer be used.

Why could my Gift Card be declined?

Usually because there are not enough funds on the Gift Card to pay for a transaction but it may also happen if the retailers systems are not working.

What should I do if my Gift Card is declined?

If a transaction is declined, you should first check your Gift Card balance by calling 0870 820 0284 or, if it is registered, by visiting www.gospendit.co.uk.

What should I do if my Gift Card is declined and there are enough funds to pay for a transaction?

If your Gift Card has been declined and there are enough funds on your Gift Card please call a Customer Services Representative on 0870 820 0284 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday to Friday.

What do I do if my Gift Card is lost or stolen?

You should treat your Gift Card like cash and keep it safe at all times. If you have lost your Gift Card or it has been stolen you can report it by calling our Customer Service at 0870 820 0284. To report your Gift Card lost or stolen you need your Gift Card number (the long number on the front of your Gift Card).

Will I lose any funds if I lose my Gift Card or it is stolen?

Yes you will lose any funds which have been spent on your Gift Card before it is reported lost or stolen.

What do I do if my Gift Card is damaged?

If your Gift card has been damaged and will not work anymore please contract Customer Services on 0870 820 0284 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday to Friday and we will arrange for the Gift Card to be blocked and refund any balance to you.

Can I get a replacement Gift Card if my Gift Card is lost or stolen or damaged?

No. If this happens then you will need to ask for a refund of any balance on your Gift Card.

Can I transfer the balance on one Gift Card to another Gift Card?

No. You must either spend the balance on your Gift Card or ask for a refund.

Can I get a refund of the outstanding balance on my Gift Card?

Yes. You can ask us to refund the outstanding balance to you at any time before your Gift Card expires (i.e. 2 years from the date on which it was first bought) and up to 6 years after it has expired.
To do this contact a Customer Services Representative by calling 0870 820 0284 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday to Friday or write to us. We will refund any balance by cheque or by a transfer to your UK bank or building society account.

If I have registered my Gift Card can I change my personal information on-line?

To do this you will need to login to your Gift Card account at www.gospendit.co.uk. You will be able to change your details except for your date of birth and name. If either of these need to be changed you must call a Customer Services Representative on 0870 820 0284, who are available 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday to Friday. You will only be able to change your address details once in any 30 day period.
